Filled with many illustrations of the passes, this book also lists eight hundred Rocky Mountain passes with their locations , altitudes and brief descriptions for the benefit of latter day explorers Contains vignettes about Zebulon Pike, John Fremont, and David Douglas along with excerpts from journals kept by various other interesting adventurers. An excellent book relating the stories of how routes through the Rockies were found , includes vignettes of early explorers, a listing of 800 of the passes with their locations, altitudes, and brief descriptions.
