Summary, etc The Johnstown Flood of May 31st, 1889 occurred after the failure of the South Fork dam of the Little Conemaugh River 14 miles upstream of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Twenty two hundred people died, including whole families. This book written and published in 1889 gives an almost 'on the spot' account of deaths, survival, rescues, personal accounts and destruction in an immediate way that cannot be replicated by later accounts. With full accounts also of the destruction on the Susquehanna and Juniata rivers, and the Bald Eagle Creek.
