Sheldon Parsons was born in 1866 in Rochester, New York. He studied at the National Academy of Design. From 1895 – 1912 he was a successful portrait artist in New York and painted portraits for those like President McKinley and Susan B. Anthony. Parsons moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1913. He later became the first director of the New Mexico Museum of Fine art in 1918. He passed away in September of 1943 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
