From the Federal Art Project WPA 1938
Jozef Bakos was born on September 3, 1891 in Buffalo, New York. He studied at the Art School at the Albright Art Gallery, 1918 he went with fellow John Thompson to Denver, Colorado he worked as an art teacher in Boulder. In 1920 he settled in Santa Fe, where he first earned money by carving furniture for La Fonda Hotel and in 1921 founded “Los Cinco Pintores”. He passed asway on April 25, 1977 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
