Polia Sunockin Pillin was born on September 1, 1909 in Szenstochowa, Poland. She immigrated to Chicago in 1924. She studied there at the AIC and Jewish Peoples Institute. She moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in the 1930s but made painting trips to California. She settled in Los Angeles in 1948 where she remained until her death on July 25, 1992
