In former days there was in New Mexico a way of life that is unknown today. It was the way of a patrone family on a large sheep and cattle ranch surrounding a little village, completely isolated, high int eh mountains. It is this life which Oliver La Farge pictures in his collection of tales. The tales are impressionistic rather than narrative.
