Artists everywhere have always loved nature and tried to emulate it in their work. But a painting inspired by nature need not be a traditional landscape; the universe's endless variety of forms, textures, and rhythms can be captured using freer, more experimental techniques as well. Jagged rocks sprayed with foam, pebbles worn smooth in the bottom of a brook, lacy ice crystals slowly spreading across a window, a sandstone cliff lined with crevices, rippled patterns carved into sand by receding waves, even the eerie glow of distant celestial bodies as they might appear to a space traveler - what artist would not love to re-create such effects on paper?
