Text under the first photo reads, "Raton has long been noted for its Christmas decorations, as these photos show. At left the Municipal Building was ablaze with Christmas lights in 1936. At right is downtown Raton as it was decorated for the holiday season in 1940. These photos were loaned to the Range's "Looking Back" series by the Raton Public Service Company staff." A handwritten arrow and note ("Photo on back") refer to the downtown Raton description. There is no text under the photograph on the back which is a view of Second Street (2nd St.), looking north, taken from the west side of the street. Business signs in this photograph read, "Chick Burger Sandwich; Norge; Buffet; Sweet Shop".
