Ed Ford, an American expatriot living in Berlin, is moving through a chain of seemingly unreleated events, but an unseen logic governs his progress. He is consumed by a WWII mystery involving his own grandfather who was a U-Boat captain. Returning to the U.S., he is driven on by random events he cannot explain. A case of mistaken identity makes him a wanted man, but his flight leads him to the solution of the decades old mystery he had failed to solve in Germany.
