Harlan Janeway leaves a life he never wanted in Nashville, Tennesse, and goes to central Mexico where he falls in with a mixed, ribald crowd. A sexual liason harvests him a heap of trouble with all the wrong people. Interwoven with his story is the the historical one of Funnar Haglund, a Swedish mining entrpreneur during the Mexican Revolution. His tale is tragic, but Janeway's out of control life is almost an extension of Haglund's. Does history repeat itself or does Janeway succeed when failure is no longer an option?
