This book fives a clear insight into free range times when "roughing it" drew both men came west to northeastern New Mexico and the adjoining Neutral strip without organized government. Cattle companies were formed free from restraint. Many left when cattle prices dropped, but a railroad in 1888 provided an outlet for the cattle and formed towns and governments.
