In Hangin’ Pards, it sure seemed that Holt Deaver had just about the worst luck of anyone in the West. At the age of twenty-five he was dead broke and on the run. He had shot one man in Chloride and had killed two others in less than a week. So when an old, whiskery, murdering no-good offered Holt ten thousand bucks to side him, it looked like a good thing. It was at least a chance for the best of everything if the gamble paid off—horses, food, liquor, and women. It also meant a partnership with a wanted outlaw and a self-conviction for Holt. But the thought of that last chance drove Holt on. Little did he reckon that even if the old rascal kept his word, it wouldn't do much good with six other bloodthirsty gunslingers on his trail.
